As a result of a close collaboration with the Luxembourg government, ArcelorMittal announced in April 2016 it was committed to maintaining its presence in Luxembourg with plans to build a new headquarters - confirming the local anchoring of the group for 10 years. The future head office will be located in the European area of Kirchberg on Avenue J.F. Kennedy and bordered by Rue Galileo Galilei and Rue Fort Thüngen.

The project confirms ArcelorMittal’s commitment to ensure its employees enjoy a state-of-the-art working environment, and demonstrating the environmental advantages of using steel in construction.

The size and ambition of this architectural project mean the headquarters building is set to become a significant landmark in Luxembourg. Steel will be used for both the building’s internal structure and external façades.

ArcelorMittal and the Kirchberg Plateau Urbanisation and Development Fund (Fonds Kirchberg) organized a consultation of architects in February 2017. Eight internationally renowned architecture firms have been selected for their skill and experience and on the basis of past projects and invited to submit sketches for the project.

  • Bernard Tschumi Architectes
  • Foster + Partners
  • JSWD Architekten
  • Massimiliano Fuksas Architecture
  • Rafael Viñoly Architects
  • Rem Koolhaas OMA
  • Von Gerkan, Marg and partners
  • Wilmotte & associés

Three will then be invited to produce a preliminary architectural design.
