Excellence Made in Luxembourg

Luxembourg is a gift of iron, just as Egypt is a gift of the Nile.

The history of the Grand Duchy and ArcelorMittal are inseparable. ArcelorMittal is the heir to over 150 years of steelmaking in Luxembourg, from the first iron mines in the Minett region and the earliest blast furnaces to today’s modern facilities. We take pride in producing high-quality steel, recognized worldwide and used in unique projects.

Here are three prestigious achievements that would not exist without the expertise of ArcelorMittal’s teams, who manufacture these benchmark products every day in our industrial sites.

One World Trade Center – Made In Differdange

Standing at 541 metres tall, One World Trade Center features a sleek, tapered triangular design that commemorates the nearby 9/11 National Memorial.

A masterful blend of innovation, architecture, security, and sustainability, this 2014 tower introduced new architectural and environmental standards to the New York City skyline. Spanning 325,000 m² and 104 floors, its grand lobby and observation deck are open to the public.

ArcelorMittal supplied HISTAR® beams produced in Differdange to reinforce the building’s foundations, along with structural steel profiles and plates to form the tower’s framework. The project includes more than 12,500 tonnes of steel made in Luxembourg.

Keep that in mind on your next visit to the Big Apple!

Palm Jumeirah – Made In Belval

No Luxembourgish sheet piles, no Palm Jumeirah? That’s right! Our Belval-made sheet piles are a global benchmark for this type of construction—just they did for the Palm Jumeirah!

A flagship product of Luxembourg’s steel industry for decades, Belval sheet piles are used worldwide to retain water or soil, reinforce banks, slow coastal erosion, and prevent flooding.

In the case of Palm Jumeirah, built between 2001 and 2007, our sheet piles were played a key role in preserving the architect’s design by maintaining the island’s distinct shape and separating the walls from the seawater.

Roland Garros, the roof of its central court – Made in Rodange

Behind the scenes, our Rodange site produced the 44 rails used to guide the retractable roof of the center court in record time. The A150 rails are the largest in our DIN range and were made of high-quality 110CrV.

It took only two months from ordering to delivery of our rails to the end customer.

Thanks to excellent internal cooperation, tournament players and spectators can comfortably enjoy matches day and night, protected from the elements. Thanks to our rails, the 3,850-ton roof closes in just 12 minutes!
