ArcelorMittal France offers steel to contribute to the reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris
After the fire that ravaged Notre-Dame de Paris, World Heritage masterpiece, on April 15, 2019, ArcelorMittal wishes to support the reconstruction of the cathedral.
The company, world No. 1 on steel, strongly established in France, will offer steel for the consolidation and reconstruction of the monument.
The group also provides to the authorities in charge of works its expertise and skills in construction and architecture.

ArcelorMittal and the renovation of historic buildings
This would not be the first time a historic building would benefit from metal solutions for reconstruction or renovation.
Thus, the Cathedral of Chartres (France), after a violent fire in 1836, had its frame entirely redesigned in metal while preserving the structure of the edifice.
More recently, during the renovation in 2008 of the Collège des Bernardins in Paris, built in the 13th century and inspired by Gothic style like Notre-Dame, steel products were provided to allow architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte to review the frame thanks to steel beams remaining invisible from the outside, for a better and more authentic effet.
These examples allow us to conceive a reconstruction of a historic UNESCO World Heritage site, such as the Cathedral of Notre Dame.
Steel offers many advantages: lightness of structures, speed of implementation, simplicity for the access to the site, a more sustainable result (because steel is made from recycled materials) while respecting the original architecture of construction.
