ArcelorMittal supports and accompanied the Ukraine-Luxembourg Business Club (ULBC)

On 31 January 2023, the Ukraine-Luxembourg Business Club (ULBC) organised the first Forum in Luxembourg dedicated to the rapid reconstruction of Ukraine. The Forum brought together Ukrainian and Luxembourg companies, international investors as well as Luxembourg and Ukrainian politicians.

The Luxembourg-Ukraine Economic Forum was organised under the auspices of the Luxembourg Prime Minister, in cooperation with the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and with the support of the ArcelorMittal Luxembourg Foundation, the European Investment Bank (EIB), Clearstream and PwC. It brought together more than 300 participants from both countries, of which about 50 came directly from Ukraine.

Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, and Denys Chmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, whose speech was broadcast live, jointly kicked off the opening ceremony. Michel Wurth, member of the ArcelorMittal Board of Directors, represented ArcelorMittal Foundation Luxembourg.

With 26,000 employees in its steel mills and mines in Krivyi Rih and more than USD 10 billion invested since 2005, ArcelorMittal reaffirms its commitment to its operations in the country. It also reaffirms its commitment to its employees and the courageous people of Ukraine. Finally, it reaffirms its commitment to play its part in the reconstruction of the country as soon as conditions permit.

We will have to work together, because no country, no donor and no international institution will be able to tackle this generation-long task alone. The private sector will also have a major role to play, and I am very pleased to see that many representatives have taken this opportunity to address both the challenges and the opportunities associated with the reconstruction efforts.

As part of the Forum, five panel discussions and two roundtables were held throughout the day.

These exchanges within the framework of the Economic Forum for the Rapid Reconstruction of Ukraine were considered by all participants as particularly fruitful. The Forum offered a unique opportunity to meet key Ukrainian players and to initiate and develop business relationships that will contribute to the country’s economic recovery.
