Competition for the future ArcelorMittal headquarters – architects welcomed in Kirchberg - Luxembourg

ArcelorMittal launched last February a competition for design of Luxembourg headquarters building, located in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

ArcelorMittal, in close collaboration with the Kirchberg Plateau Urbanisation and Development Fund (Fonds Kirchberg) invited eight internationally renowned architecture firms to participate in the project. The consultation process has been going further on March 8 – the teams involved in the project gathered to know more about the construction site and share.

All the architects (or representatives) invited for their skills and experience and on the basis of past projects as well as ArcelorMittal project management team and the Fonds Kirchberg met at the Fonds Kirchberg headquarters in Luxembourg to interact together. The history of Kirchberg, its urban planning and the projects under development were presented.

ArcelorMittal shared with the audience its culture, markets, products and achievements and highlighted the importance given to sustainable development and innovation. The architecture firms FOSTER (United-Kingdom), FUKSAS (Italy), JSWD (Germany), OMA (The Netherlands), TSHUMI (Switzerland), GERKAN & MARG (Germany), VINOLY (United-States), WILMOTTE (France) could ask for more information. Afterwards, they visited the plot of land to learn more on the local environment.

Mid-April, the participants will have to provide ArcelorMittal with the sketches of their architecture project whose requirements have been exposed during the meeting. A maximum of three will then be invited to produce a preliminary architectural design. The winner of the competition will have an architecture mission of conception, implementation and follow-up.
