From Hadir to Profilarbed – The metamorphosis of the site and its city
The exhibition "From Hadir to Profilarbed - The metamorphosis of the factory and its city" offers a selection of 120 unpublished photos until March 26 at the H2O space in Differdange.
A titanic work was carried out by Yves Claude, passionate about Luxembourg history, to make us rediscover the history of the ArcelorMittal site based in Differdange thanks to the digitization of 5000 historical photos and all this while carrying out historical research with former employees retired today.
The series of photographs, taken from the site’s internal photo library, provide unprecedented testimony to the evolution of the site and the city, from the 1960s to 2000. The exhibition begins with the HADIR (Hauts-Fourneaux et Aciéries de Differdange, Saint-Ingbert and Rumelange, created in 1920), and its integration into the Arbed group (Aciéries reunited de Burbach, Eich and Dudelange) in 1967. The steel crisis followed from 1975 to 1985 with the demolition of certain old installations, and the modernization of others going as far as setting up the electrical sector, essential to prepare ProfilArbed Differdange for the challenges of the 21st century. The factory still benefits today from a large part of the beneficial effects of these modernizations.
The last part of the exhibition finally looks at the official visits that took place on the sites of the steelworks and the rolling mill during this period.
