Minister for the Environment visits Belval
ArcelorMittal Long Products Luxembourg welcomed the Minister for the Environment, Joëlle Welfring, to the Belval steelworks on May 25.
This meeting, the first since the appointment of Joëlle Welfring to this post, allowed the teams to show the Minister the production process and the actions implemented on the various ArcelorMittal LPL sites. The purpose of this informal visit was to inform the Minister about the projects in progress concerning the decarbonization of our production process and to review the management of complaints from residents of Luxembourg sites.

The Minister and her team were able to visit the scrap metal park, the electric arc furnace and the continuous casting. The field visit was followed by a time of discussion with the LPL management, the Environment department and government relations to discuss the projects in development on the sites.
For example, the LPL site in Differdange, located in the heart of the city, has embarked on in-depth work to combat dust emissions. Various projects are underway and in development to achieve this, including moving black slag pits under cover and deploying solutions for capturing diffuse emissions related to the secondary metallurgy manufacturing process. Another subject is decarbonization, with in particular the recently validated project for a new concept of the Belval electric steelworks as well as projects related to the use of hydrogen to replace natural gas for the beam furnaces of our rolling mills.
The Minister and her team appreciated the commitment of the site and especially of the employees in pursuing our path towards carbon-neutral steel.
