Mobility, a challenge accepted by our employees!

In September 2025, ArcelorMittal Luxembourg participated for the first time in the Mobility Challenge organized by Mobiz, the Luxembourg association dedicated to promoting more sustainable mobility.

In Luxembourg, mobility remains one of the country’s main challenges. Despite the introduction of free public transport in 2020, the Grand Duchy remains one of the European countries with the highest number of cars per capita. Every day, more than 200,000 cross-border commuters cross the border to come to work, most of them alone in their vehicles.
The result: daily traffic jams, increased stress, fatigue, and high CO₂ emissions.
Given this reality, it is essential for companies to actively engage in the search for sustainable solutions. It is with this in mind that ArcelorMittal chose to take on the Mobility Challenge, with the aim of promoting soft mobility among its employees.

This edition of the challenge brought together 27 companies of all sizes. For 12 days, nearly 300 participants chose carpooling, train, bus or bicycle, allowing a total saving of more than 3 tonnes of CO₂ (3,106 kg) just with carpooling, which was at the heart of this initiative.

Internal challenge

Internally, ArcelorMittal launched a competition for its employees, rewarding:

  • The highest number of trips made via the Blablacar Daily app,
  • The most beautiful photos illustrating their new soft mobility habits.

During the challenge, 87 employees registered on the Blablacar Daily app, 71 trips were made, and 3,335 km were traveled, saving 726 kg of CO2. Since the launch at the end of July, we have traveled 11,900 km and avoided 2,590 kg of CO2 emissions with 263 carpools!

Thanks to this collective commitment, ArcelorMittal achieved the second-best corporate performance in the Mobility Challenge.

Around twenty employees were rewarded for their participation in early October, receiving gifts from our local partners: weekends in electric cars, hotel stays, restaurant vouchers, and even an electric bike!

Thank you to our partners: Merbag, BMW, Arnold Kontz, Losch, Car avenue, Groupe Autosphere Luxembourg, Accor Hotel, Sixt, Nutchel, Luxfly, ACL and Enterprise.
