Respecting our environmental commitments and pursuing projects for a responsible industry

Every day, our teams are committed to ensuring harmonious coexistence between our industrial activity and local life. We remain attentive to the residents of the municipalities and those living near our factories to work tirelessly on reducing the potential nuisances caused by our activities.

Looking back at 2024: concrete actions for responsible management

In 2024, ArcelorMittal Long Products Luxembourg implemented several initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life around its facilities:

  • Heat recovery in Belval: we increased the heat recovery capacity by 25% to distribute it on the external network
  • Reduction of our gas consumption in Belval, thanks to the injection of oxygen into our production processes
  • New dust collection system in Differdange: the first phase is almost complete (excluding connections to production facilities), for a target of reducing dust emissions by 80% planned by 2026.
  • Relocation of the black slag pit in Differdange: this facility has been moved away from homes, thus considerably reducing noise and dust pollution.
  • Lighting modernization: 50% of all facilities have been equipped with LED lighting, thus reducing our energy consumption.
  • Launch of phase 1 of our biodiversity plan: new infrastructures have been installed to promote cohabitation between local species and our activity.
  • Responsible Steel™ certification: we were the first in the world to obtain this certification for all of our Long Products Luxembourg sites, confirming our commitment to a more sustainable and responsible steel industry.

    Continued efforts in 2025

The coming year will be marked by the continuation of our actions in favor of a cleaner and more respectful environment:

  • Phase 2 of the dust removal project in Differdange: continuation and end of the project, including the connection of the installation to the production process with the installation of hoods and ducts.
  • Solar power plant in Belval: the TMB (Train Moyen Belval) will host a new solar panel plant in 2025. The production will be intended for internal use, allowing the site to supply itself with decarbonized energy as close as possible.
  • New white slag hall in Belval, will reduce our diffuse dust emissions
  • Finalization of the replacement of lighting with LEDs: all of our installations will thus be modernized.
  • Increased noise monitoring: a monitoring system will be set up in Belval and Differdange.
  • Phase 2 of our biodiversity plan: we will strengthen our efforts to preserve local fauna and flora in parallel with our industrial activity.
