Steel Construction Day was held on November 7 at the Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg-City. ArcelorMittal presented the recent steel achievements in Luxembourg as well as the construction sector’s opportunities and challenges.
Steel Construction Day 2017 is open to building owners, architects, design offices, metal builders, contractors, public authorities, but also to distribution, steel trading and technical education.
The future of steel and the integration of sustainable development challenges in the construction sector were the main themes of the event. Among them, the circular economy and eco-design were discussed.
Louis-Guy Cajot, Head of product development ArcelorMittal Europe - Long products then led a session on the connection of heavy elements, presenting especially the new "Orange Book" website for engineers to facilitate the design of metal structures. Pierre Engel, head of ArcelorMittal headquarters construction in Luxembourg, eventually explained the advantages of steel in the rehabilitation.
Moreover, the Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christoph Odenbreit, from the University of Luxembourg - in charge of the ArcelorMittal Chair on Steel and Façade Engineering in Luxembourg - presented the advantages of steel and composite building solutions for the circular economy.

Mr. François Bausch - Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure – pointed out the benefits and opportunities of steel; and announced the winners of the competition.
