Performance Excellence Award 2015: ArcelorMittal Belval winner
The winners of the 2014-2015 Performance Excellence Awards (PEA) were announced on December 10 at a ceremony in the ArcelorMittal headquarters in Luxembourg. This internal recognition aims at valuing achievements of ArcelorMittal employees across the globe.
Mr Mittal, chairman of the jury, awarded winners representatives of each category:
- Health and safety ;
- environment and corporate responsibility ;
- operationnal excellence ;
- customer satisfaction and margin generation ;
- innovation on leadership, management and human resources;
- technical innovation and R&D.
Several innovative projects developed by ArcelorMittal production sites in Luxembourg were in competition for this contest.
In the category Technical innovation and R&D, ArcelorMittal Belval’s Mill 2 was recognized for its new rolling technique to increase the width of its sheet piles extra-large sheet piles. In 2015, the Mill 2 benefited of an investment of 35 Million EUR which included the installation of a new straightener.
This new rolling technique enables ArcelorMittal Belval team to maintain and further grow its leadership position in high added value products.
The jury also noted that, despite the fact that ArcelorMittal is already the world leader in sheet piles, the team did not become complacent and looked for new ways to stay ahead of the competition. Also, it was a perfect example of successful collaboration between various players, with process engineers, production teams and R&D experts working hand-in-hand for two years to bring this project to fruition.
