ArcelorMittal integrates competitiveness plan in new collective labor agreement

ArcelorMittal has informed the unions and the conciliator today, 24 October 2013, about next steps to reach a new collective labor agreement. The group will extend the effects of the denounced collective labor agreements until 15 December 2013.

This follows a request by the unions to further discuss ArcelorMittal's proposed competitiveness plan. The company aims to integrate the plan in the new labor agreement.

Competitiveness is a key element for ArcelorMittal to continue steel production in Luxembourg. While it is necessary to reduce costs and increase productivity, the company also takes its responsibility to further invest in the country. The Lux 2016 agreement includes a total investment of more than 150 Million EUR until 2016. ArcelorMittal has also conducted a feasibility study for the modernisation of the sheet pile mill in Belval. The implementation of the plan for competitiveness including the collective labor agreement will be an important milestone to justify the economies of this investment.

ArcelorMittal has asked the unions to sign until 31 October 2013 the prolonged effects of the denounced labor agreements and the will to negotiate a new agreement including competitiveness plan.

The management will inform all employees in the following days with more details.
